Metabolic health overlaps heavily with weight management and hormone care, and the overlap is not accidental — many clinics use the three terms to describe one programme. The category is useful anyway, because it captures organisations that lead with laboratory measurement rather than with a product.
At its most substantive, metabolic care means measuring something specific — fasting insulin, an oral glucose tolerance test, a lipid panel with particle detail, markers of inflammation — interpreting the results in the context of your history, and treating what the results show. At its least substantive, it means a large panel of tests, a printout, and a supplement or peptide programme that would have been recommended regardless of what the panel returned.
The distinguishing question is what the testing is actually for. A clinic doing this well can tell you in advance which results would change the plan, and which would rule a treatment out. A clinic doing it as a sales instrument will present the panel as evidence of the need for a programme it was always going to recommend.
Peptides marketed for metabolic purposes cluster here, and their evidence base varies from substantial to essentially absent. A compound with interesting preclinical findings and no human exposure data is in a very different position from an approved drug with trial results, even when both appear on the same menu under the same heading. Laboratory or animal findings do not establish human benefit, and a published paper about a molecule is not evidence about a specific compounded product.
The directory records which organisations advertise metabolic services and what they publish about them. Whether a given programme is worth its cost is a judgement you will have to make with a clinician, but the questions below will tell you a good deal about which kind of clinic you are dealing with.
Insulin resistance is the condition most of this category orbits, and it is genuinely important — it precedes type 2 diabetes, it is measurable, and it responds to intervention. That makes it a legitimate clinical target and, unfortunately, an effective marketing frame. The same term covers a clinic managing a documented metabolic disorder and a wellness programme using the vocabulary of one, and the two can look similar until you ask what is being measured and what threshold triggers treatment.
Continuous glucose monitoring has become common in this category, including for people without diabetes. The data is real, and for some people the feedback genuinely changes behaviour. What is much less established is whether the specific patterns these programmes flag in people with normal glucose tolerance predict anything clinically meaningful. If a monitor is part of a programme, ask what will be done with the readings and which of them would change the plan.
Supplements and compounded products are where metabolic programmes most often extend beyond their evidence. A clinic may be entirely sound on testing and interpretation and still attach a product list that has no comparable support. Evaluate those separately rather than letting confidence in the diagnostic work transfer to the retail side. The quality of a clinic's laboratory reasoning tells you nothing about the standing of a compound it sells alongside it.
It is also worth asking what happens to your data. Metabolic programmes generate a lot of it — panels, monitor traces, food logs — and the terms governing who may access, retain or sell that information vary widely between platforms. Ask where results are stored, who can see them, and what happens to the record if you leave. A programme that cannot answer plainly is one you should assume retains more than you would choose.
Regulatory status
Many compounds marketed for metabolic purposes are neither approved nor eligible for compounding, and some are sold as research chemicals with disclaimers that carry no legal weight. Treat the absence of evidence as unknown rather than as reassurance, and ask for the regulatory status of each named compound rather than for the category as a whole.
What to establish first
Five things worth settling before a consultation. None of them require clinical knowledge to ask.
- 1Which specific markers are measured, and which results would change or rule out the proposed plan.
- 2Whether a clinician interprets results with you, or whether you receive a report and a recommendation.
- 3Whether testing is repeated to assess response, and at what interval.
- 4For any peptide offered, what human evidence exists for that specific compound and route.
- 5Whether the recommendation would have differed had the panel come back unremarkable.

Cost
We do not publish a price range for this category. The directory records prices only where a named provider publishes one and we have checked it on a stated date, and no provider on this page currently meets that bar. A composite range assembled from marketing pages would look authoritative and mean very little — ask each clinic directly what the programme costs after any introductory period, and what is excluded.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Is a large lab panel a sign of a thorough clinic?
Not on its own. What matters is whether the results change the plan. A useful signal is whether the clinic can tell you in advance which findings would rule a treatment out — a panel that cannot produce a result that changes anything is not being used diagnostically.
How should I read research cited for a metabolic peptide?
Check the population, the route of administration, the comparator and the outcome measured. Laboratory or animal findings do not establish human benefit, and research about a molecule is not evidence about a specific compounded product containing it.
Does appearing in this category mean a provider is recommended?
No. A provider appears here because its own public materials advertise services in this category. The directory records and dates what a provider publishes; it does not rank clinical quality, and inclusion is not an endorsement.
Are the treatments in this category FDA-approved?
That depends entirely on the specific product, not the category. Approval is product-specific: a given drug is approved for a given indication, route and population. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and do not undergo premarket review for safety, effectiveness or quality. Check the exact product in Drugs@FDA rather than reasoning from the category name.
Why do some listings show no verification badge?
Verification labels describe narrow, dated checks — that an organisation exists, that a named clinician holds an active licence at the time of checking. A profile without one has not had that check completed, which is not the same as failing it. The verification framework page defines each label.
